DARKLING: The Dark Forest
The galaxy is silent. That's not an accident.
Darkling is a multiplayer strategy game inspired by the Dark Forest theory from Liu Cixin's Three-Body Problem and built on one idea: in a universe of unknown civilizations, being discovered means being destroyed.
You control a hidden civilization drifting through deep space. You don't know how many other players exist. You don't know if anyone has found you. The galaxy feels empty, but the silence is a lie.
How it works
Hide. Your civilization generates resources and grows over time, but growth makes you louder. A bigger civilization is easier to detect. Staying small keeps you safe. Staying small keeps you weak.
Spy. Deploy quantum probes to gather intelligence on civilizations you've discovered. Learn their strength, their defenses, their habits. But your probes can be detected, and now they know someone is watching.
Strike. Launch anonymous attacks from the void. Your target won't know who hit them, only that something emerged from the dark. But attacking makes noise, and noise attracts attention.
Deceive. Share coordinates with other players to build alliances, or send fabricated coordinates to waste their resources on empty space. Every piece of shared intelligence could be genuine or a trap. Trust is a weapon.
